You are invited to take part in a research study called, “Substance Use and Mental Health Disorders Among Texas First Responders,” conducted by Dr. James Langabeer, of the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston. For this research project, he will be called the Principal Investigator or PI.
The purpose of this study is to understand the prevalence rates of substance use and mental health disorders among first responders in Texas. If you decide to take part in this study, the total time commitment is expected to be no more than 10 minutes. You are invited to take part in this study because you are a first responder in the State of Texas over 18 years of age.You can refuse to answer any questions asked. Your participation in this study is voluntary. A decision not to take part in this study will not affect you negatively.
If you agree to participate, you will be asked to respond to several anonymous, online survey questions.
You may not receive any benefit from taking part in this study. The information you provide will help us better understand substance use disorders and mental health among first responders. There are no known risks related to participating in this study. The information collected from you will not contain identifying information. You have the right to choose to not take part in this study and can withdraw at any time.
There are no costs to you and you will not be paid to take part in this study. You will not be personally identified in any reports or publications that may result from this study. Any personal information about you that is gathered during this study will remain confidential to the extent of the law.
